TT electronics WPYP range of flameproof wire-wound resistor

There are two possible circuit functions of resistors connected across such capacitors: bleed and balancing.

Bleed resistors are used to discharge capacitors to safe voltage levels after power has been removed. A bleed resistor may be either switched across the capacitor for rapid discharge without quiescent dissipation, or permanently connected for high reliability and low cost.

When aluminium electrolytic capacitors are connected in series, it is advisable to use balancing resistors to control the voltage sharing across each device. Balancing resistors are high value resistors rated at the appropriate voltage and matched in value to within a few percent.

Product features include direct mount on capacitor terminals at 22mm and 32mm pitch, high power dissipation up to 13W at 25 ºC, corrosion resistant terminals for long life, superior vibration resistance and RoHS compliance.

In addition the devices have been specially designed to handle repetitive pulse loading.
Target end-product applications include uninterruptible power supplies, power factor correction units, motor drive invertors and welder power supplies.
